How People Use Online Media
I have been working on a new white paper that will present social networking statistics from a variety of sources. The statistics in this paper will provide a base to help executives assess the need for their organizations to become part of social networks. More importantly it will show that you can not just put up a page and be successful. You must engage your consumers and give them opportunities to interact with you.

During my research I found some stats I would like to share now, before I release the white paper. These statistics are from the book Groundswell written by two Forester researchers. If you have not read this book you should. Here is a link to the book on Amazon. GROUNDSWILL

These stats show how people who are online use the various social media tools.

Percentage of Online Consumers Using Blogs and User-Generated Content in the U.S

Read Blogs:            25%
Comment on Blogs:        14%
Write a Blog:            11%
Watch User-Generated
Videos:            29%
Upload User-Generated
Video:                8%
Listen to Pod    casts        11%

The significance of these percentages is that it is a reminder to all of use that far more people are spectators than actually generate creative materials. Therefore social media promotions must appeal to the spectators by being relevant, interesting and personally valuable. Look for the full white paper in a couple of weeks.
